The editor operates in two modes - Edit and View - and two states - Normal and Hint.
The Normal state is the default.
The Hint state occurs when the mouse hovers over the editor or in other circumstances.
View mode
Depending on the state, the editor displays the current hotkey combination (in normal state)
or suggests changing the hotkey (in Hint state).
Hint state: when the mouse hovers over the editor. Enter Edit mode: click inside the editor or press Space while the editor is focused.
Edit mode
Normal state: the editor shows key symbols if at least one of
the following modifier keys is pressed: Shift, Control, Option, Command.
Hint state: if no modifier key is pressed, or if the mouse hovers over the star button on the right side of the editor. Exit Edit mode: entering an acceptable hotkey combination or pressing the ESC key.
